ITEC Competition News

Congrats to studio members who have advanced in the ITEC competitions. Chris Leslie will compete in the Artist Euphonium Solo Competition, the Mock Military Audition Competition and the Chamber Music Competition. He will be joined in the Chamber Music Competition by Patrick Geren, David McLemore and Chris Leslie. Alex Avila will compete in the Mock Military Band Audition Competition. UGA alums, Charlie Goodman and Phil Bloomer also advancedin at least one competition. Go Dawgs!

UGA Tuba Euph Studio to perform at ITEC

Happy to announce that the UGA Tuba Euph Ensemble will be performing at ITEC in Bloomington, IN in May . Professor Zerkel will perform a solo recital which will include the Premiere of James Grant's Three More Furies. He will also perform on a concert featuring the Euphonium and Tuba sections from the Brass Band of Battle Creek.

Phil Smith joins UGA Brass Faculty!

Phil Smith, long time Principal Trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, has his announced his plans to retire from the orchestra and will join the full-time faculty of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music in August of 2014. We are thrilled to have him join our team and look forward to many productiive years of collaboration!


Congrats to members of the studio who had recent wins at the state level of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) competitions. DMA euphoniumist Chis Leslie was the first place winner in the Young Artist Solo Brass Competition and the UGA Tuba Quartet (Chris Leslie, Patrick Geren, David McLemore and Chris Gurtcheff) was the first place winner in the Wind Chamber Music Competition. They will go on to compete at the Southern Division meeting in Louisville, KY in January.
